Montserrat
Mountains define this island that is a British Overseas Territory. Perhaps most known for the 1990 eruption of the Soufrière Hills volcano, Montserrat has been engaged in rebuilding efforts since. Much of the island remains pristine, including the black sand beaches, coral reefs, and jagged cliffs.
Trademark Rights
Trademarks and service marks are eligible for registration in Montserrat. The following rules and regulations apply:
Prior use: None required
Classification: Nice Classification
Registration term: 10 years and registrations are renewable for 10 year periods
Non-use vulnerability: 5 years
Extension of United Kingdom Rights
Registration is possible upon the basis of a fully registered United Kingdom trademark. UK-based registrations are granted via an application which extends trade and service mark rights based on the original date of registration for the underlying UK marks.
